Dealing with a Disease like Diabetes takes a lot of work. To successfully deal with this disease you have to be your own best advocate. This can be a real challenge and can be pretty exhausting.
The routine of testing your blood sugar numerous times a day takes resolve and a determined will. Then if you have to include taking insulin doing the injections can be painful and problematic.
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the way your body processes sugar (glucose). Glucose is the main source of energy for your body’s cells and is derived from the food you eat. There are three main types of diabetes: type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce any insulin, a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels. This type of diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and is treated with insulin injections.
In type 2 diabetes, the body does not use insulin properly (a condition called insulin resistance) and/or does not make enough insulin. This type of diabetes is usually diagnosed in adults and can be treated with a combination of diet, exercise, and medication.
Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. It usually goes away after the baby is born, but women who have had gestational diabetes have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
If diabetes is not well-controlled, it can lead to serious health problems, such as heart disease, nerve damage, blindness, and kidney disease.Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects the way your body processes sugar (glucose).
